Like all Year 12 students, Alex Habner worked hard in his final year. The classroom for Alex, however, was a bit further afield. You were more likely to find Alex in the middle of a paddock in remote SA.
Alex’s passion for farming grew throughout his educational life. So, when Alex had the flexibility at TVCS to begin studying a VET Agriculture course with Regional Skills Training (RST) as well as a SACE Agriculture course in combination with his other SACE subjects, he grabbed it, with both gloves!
“…..It was very nice to be around like-minded people, who have similar goals to yourself” says Alex. “I was able to learn new skills and then take them back to the workplace.”
The opportunity for Alex to receive the theoretical and practical training on Machinery and Livestock, saw him become somewhat of a poster boy for the Regional Skills Training Group. He recently featured in their training video, as part of a Machinery Operations Safety Guide.
It’s always exciting to see our students thriving in their calling. Recognising and matching a student’s skillsets with their passion, is one of Torrens Valley Christian School’s proudest achievements. In recent years, many TVCS students have been able to follow their dreams by choosing VET courses across many different vocations.
“When I’m qualified and have my tickets, I’m really keen to take the skills I’ve learned, and bring them into the workplace.”
On behalf of Torren Valley Christian School, we congratulate Alex on the harvest that will likely come from all his hard work. We wish him all the very best as he follows his dream, all the way off into the sunset.
